Announcement of the Summer School “Physics of Stars” (July 2011)
FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT
Dear colleagues,
we would like to inform you about a summer school entitled
“Physics of Stars”, to be held in Turunç-Marmaris (Turkey)
from 17 to 29 July 2011.
The School is focused on Stellar Astrophysics (including
Solar Physics, star formation, protoplanetary discs and
stellar remnants). During the first week of the School the
necessary physical background (Fluid Mechanics, Radiation
Transfer and an introduction to MHD) will be considered.
It is planned to have afternoon sessions for exercises and
discussions about specific problems. We will allocate
sufficient time for participants to make short oral
presentations in the evenings.
The School is organized by the “Institute of Theoretical and
Applied Physics” (ITAP) of Turkey within the framework of the
“International Advanced Research School in Physics” (IARS).
ITAP is a new institute established in 2006 with the purpose
of promoting scientific and educational interaction among
physicists and students of Physics. The institute is located
in Turunç-Marmaris, overlooking a picturesque bay in the
southwestern Mediterranean coast of Turkey, not far from the
Greek island of Rhodes.
ITAP cannot provide funding for the travel expenses, but the
registration fee can be partially waived for a limited number of applicants
(based on the application form and recommendation letters). The fee is
completely waived for Turkish citizens, thanks to a state funding.
In total, 40 students will be accepted to the summer school.
The list of lecturers includes:
Philip J. Armitage (Boulder, Colorado, USA)
Antonio Ferriz Mas (Vigo/Granada, Spain)
Emre Isik (Istanbul, Turkey)
Egidio Landi Degl’Innocenti (Firenze, Italy)
Feryal Ozel (Tucson, Arizona, USA)
We are attaching the “first announcement” as a PDF file.
